CSR-SDR Launched into Space

By July 20th, 2010

Vulcan Wireless is proud to announce that the CSR-SDR CubeSatellite Software Defined Radio successfully flew into space on 5/4/2010 from Space Port America on an Up AeroSpace Spaceloft XL. The CSR-SDR software defined radio was configured to provide two data links in real time. The CSR-SDR’s first data link demonstrated in-flight communications with the NASA Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS). The TDRSS is a constellation of nine geosynchronous satellites that utilize a direct sequence spread spectrum communications technique and are used for on orbit communications to LEO space vehicles. The second data link provided S-Band telemetry to ground for in-flight payload telemetry data. The CSR-SDR was the first payload system to transmit real time telemetry from the Spaceloft XL hypersonic flight vehicle. Vulcan Wireless Inc. would like to thank AFRL, NASA/GSFC, SMC/SDTW, ORS, ITT, and Up Aerospace for their support and cooperation to make this flight the success it was.
